UUCF COMMUNITY CHOIR POLICIES
Welcome to the UUCF Community Choir! We are lining up another exciting season and we want you to be a part of it. Our work changes lives and represents the heart and soul of our mission and vision for UUCF. Each month, September through May, we partner in worship for our community, concertize on campus and throughout the region, form meaningful relationships with other music and art communities, and share our myriad of resources with other artistic organizations who need our support.
ACCOUNTABILITY TO ONE ANOTHER
This website is EVERYTHING for our season. Please check it for information first. Email is also our first line of communication. Check it regularly. Your section leader is your first point of contact. They can help you to get music if you are missing it, remind you of locations or call times, and help to communicate weather emergencies or other updates. We are a covenantal group and are in relationship with one another. While this is volunteer, we hold each other to a covenant of right relations that is in line with the covenant of right relations for UUCF.
***PLEASE INFORM YOUR SECTION LEADER EVERY TIME YOU WILL BE ABSENT FOR ANY REASON. WE CANNOT PREPARE WELL WITHOUT KNOWING WHO WILL BE AT REHEARSALS.
The 2019-2020 Section leaders are:
Soprano, Julie Hielen

Alto, Kathy Splitt

WHEN WE SING
We usually wear Colorful, Bright, Solid Colored top (short or long sleeves) and Dark bottoms. We don't wear prints when we sing. Sometimes for special occasions or major works, we wear black. It would be good to invest in a solid colored top and some type of all black so that you are not caught off guard on a Sunday.
Please know that rehearsals immediately prior to an event are generally required. If you are unable to attend the rehearsal immediately preceding the Sunday, we are asking that you refrain from participating in the performance unless you have emailed Laura and she has approved. Please email Laura if there might be a creative solution.
During rehearsals and Sundays, we do not practice assigned seating because we always have a different group of singers every time. We also love it when children come in and out of rehearsal as well and recognize that people need to stand and sit throughout rehearsals due to the aches and pains of our blessed bodies. Please move around as you need. Try to sit with new singers that may not have connected to you yet. We all need each other. The only seats that we reserve are in the front row of the risers. We encourage singers to leave those chairs for those who wish not to stand to sing. All bodies are welcome and we are trying our best to accommodate. If you have needs that we should know of, please don't hesitate to ask. We want you to be comfortable in your beautiful selves!
UUCF Property
You will receive your music at the beginning of each season (Aug /Jan ). You are responsible for the music you borrow until the designated collection days announced. You may put your music in a black binder or a black choral folder of your choosing. Most of the time, you may hole punch unless specified not to because you are using a rental score (for example major works or borrowed materials from other congregations). DO NOT HIGHLIGHT YOUR MUSIC. PERIOD. All of the music we sing is available for purchase (sometimes as inexpensive as $2.50 per copy. If you would like to purchase copies of music and mark your own, you are welcome to do so. You are stewards of the music you are loaned. Please consider future singers who will use this music and erase markings before you turn it back in.
At the end of the season, if you are missing music at the end of the collection time, we ask that you refund the cost of the music to UUCF. This is an honor system. If you are returning your music after the drop off period, we ask that you file it yourself. Our librarians are volunteer and cannot file after those specific times.
We are also able to loan choir folders in the form of professional folders or black binders. Please notify your section leader if you need one.
PRACTICING
UUCF Community Choir may be different from others that you may have sung with before. Each week, rehearsal tracks are available for the songs. They are posted each week or several weeks in advance. You are expected to arrive to rehearsal having listened to the recordings and practiced your part. If you are missing too many rehearsals and haven’t had time to learn songs this is a tremendous resource. We see it as part of our welcome that all should be able to participate regardless of economic accessibility at younger ages to music lessons. Reading should not be a barrier to singing together. WE DO NOT TEACH ROTE during rehearsals because we just do not have enough time to review every song in this manner. Please arrive prepared.
JOY is our goal at every rehearsal as is support of one another. We start each rehearsal with a song called "Here Together" after we share joys and sorrows in our lives. We end blessing each other on our way with a version of the same song. Please know that pastoral care and a team of volunteers is always available should you need additional support.
MANY MANY blessings for a beautiful and musical season!
